How to reorder and manage sheet tabs in Google Sheets
At ten tabs, reordering is a drag. At thirty, it's a hunt: you can't even see the tab you're trying to move, and the destination is off-screen. Google Sheets gives you drag-and-drop and nothing faster.
The manual way
Sheets has two native moves, and both are slow at scale:
- Drag-and-drop — click a tab, drag it left or right. With many tabs, your destination is off-screen, so you're dragging while scrolling, waiting for the tab strip to auto-scroll past.
- Right-click → Move right / Move left — one position per click. Sending a tab to the far end of a 30-tab workbook means clicking "Move right" twenty-nine times.
Neither is broken; both are one-dimensional. The moment your workbook outgrows the visible tab strip, tab management becomes its own chore.
The sheetXtend way
Smart Indexer sends any tab to the front, the back, or the end — instantly, one click, no dragging and no scrolling. This month's tab goes to the front where you'll actually see it. A finished tab gets archived to the end. Quarters get ordered Q1 → Q2 → Q3 → Q4 without thirty drags.
Send any tab to the front, back, or end of the row instantly. No more hunting for the right tab in a 30-sheet workbook.
When it pays for itself
Anyone running a workbook with more tabs than fit on one screen: monthly close workbooks, quarterly models, project trackers that grow a tab per client or per week. The rule of thumb is simple — if you've ever scrolled the tab strip looking for a sheet, you've already paid the cost Smart Indexer removes.
